01•17•2015 - Jump of Jazz
Jump for Jazz
A Day of Workshops, Demonstrations, and Performances

Jump for Jazz is a one-time music education event to take place on Saturday, January 17th, 2015, 11 am – 10 pm at the Dairy Center for the Arts, Boulder, Colorado. It will includefree concurrent educational sessions during the day and a ticketed evening jazz concert.

The purpose of this event is to educate the public in general and youth in particular about the many varieties of jazz and how each is created and performed. We will be publicizing locally and reaching out in particular to the youth population in our efforts.

The Jump for Jazz Organizing Committee plans to use all three theaters at the Dairy, and offer three concurrent hour-long workshops throughout the day, each focusing on a different type of jazz. Each session will have several musicians who explain how their genre of jazz is created and executed.

The day will start at 11 am and end at 10 pm. The final event of the day will be a concert in the performance space, exhibiting each of the genres that were offered in the daytime sessions and maybe a crossover of all of them. Whereas the daytime workshop sessions will be free, the evening concert starting at 7pm will be a ticketed event. The Dairy Center for the Arts is working with us to make the performance areas conducive to our requirements.

Jump for Jazz holds 501c3 non-profit status. All gifts to Jump for Jazz are tax-deductible. Where a business or organization is making a donation, we will include your logo as well. In addition to local donations and fundraising efforts, we are also working toward getting grants and fiscal sponsorship from the Boulder County Arts Alliance (BCAA).

Please make checks payable to Our Musical Heritage, memo line, Jump for Jazz and mail to:

11 am - 9:30 pm
Our free festival in Niwot has a lineup that mixes world-renowned performers, Colorado stars and up-and-coming Jazz artists. We're bringing in Dee Alexander, an internationally-known Chicago Jazz singer whose 2013 performance at the Newport Jazz Festival was described as "mightily good" by the New York Times; Jeff Coffin and the Mu'tet (Jeff is the sax player from the Dave Mathews Band and the Flecktones) playing jazz fusion;  and Chicago Funk, Soul and Hip-Hop band Liquid Soul, coming back for their second year.

Our Colorado performers include Denver Jazz trumpeter and composer Ron Miles; returning performersConjunto Colores, a Salsa and Latin Jazz group just guaranteed to get you up and dancing; and the Steve Kovalchek Trio, who will be performing straight-ahead Jazz featuring Kovalchek on guitar.

The festival kicks off with the Colorado Jazz Group Lions— a group of student musicians who will have completed a three-day workshop with saxophonists Jeff Coffin and Mars Williams under the umbrella of the newly-formed nonprofit Colorado Jazz Group.
